‘Mad About the Arts’ is a cultural event

The classic horns of Second Avenue Project will provide selections from swing to Top 40 tunes for dancing during the main celebration at the “Mad About the Arts” benefit event at the John J. McDonough Museum of Art on Feb. 25.

The 15th annual “Mad About the Arts” evening of fine spirits, food, art and music will be presented Feb. 25 at the John J. McDonough Museum of Art on the campus of Youngstown State University.

Regarded as a leading cultural event in the Youngstown area, “Mad About the Arts” will begin with a Friends of the Arts preview reception at 6:30 p.m., and will be followed by the main event from 7:30 to 10:30.

Proceeds from the evening will benefit the McDonough Museum of Art and SMARTS — Students Motivated by the Arts.

Hors d’oeuvres from area restaurants will be featured, and premier spirits and appetizers and lemon-tinis from The Lemon Grove Cafe will be served at the preview reception. Showcased will be the Second Avenue Jazz quartet.

The main celebration will feature the classic horns of the Second Avenue Project providing selections of rhythm and blues, swing, jazz and top 40 tunes for dancing.

On display throughout the galleries will be the Reunion, an Alumni Invitational. YSU’s department of art and the McDonough Museum of Art have invited a selection of distinguished alumni to participate in the event. Many of them have achieved national and international recognition.

Underwriting has been provided by the W.E. Bliss Foundation. Promotional assistance and support for the benefit event is being provided by WKBN-27 and Fox Youngstown, the Metro Monthly, City Printing, YSU 88.5 FM and Trinkle Signs.

Food and Beverage sponsors are Aladdin’s Eatery, Caf Cimmento Italian Food and Wines, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Cassese’s MVR, Clarencedale Cake, Giannios Candy, Chalet Premier, The Lemon Grove Caf , The Mocha House, Thirsty Dog Brewing Company, Markko Vineyard, Mastropiertro Winery, Struthers Beer, Wine & Spirits and Tropea’s Fine Pastry. The cost to attend the Friends reception and the main event is $80, and the admission to the main event only is $45.
