Youth football player selected for all-star game
Canfield 9-year-old Andre Crump participated in the second annual Offense-Defense Youth All-American Bowl in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Jan. 1.
Crump, a running back/cornerback for Canfield Little Cardinals, practiced with hand-picked athletes in his age group in a series of all-star football games at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
Crump was selected for this game out of thousands of young athletes across the country.
He played well, validating the Bowl Selection Committee’s choice in tabbing Crump for the game. Crump represented the West team, securing a 25-0 victory over the East in his age division.
The Offense-Defense Youth All-American Bowl was part of a week-long series of events, including the nationally-televised, Offense-Defense All-American Bowl, an all-star football game of similar format showcasing 80 of the top high school seniors in the country. That contest was played on the same field on New Year’s Eve.
