Teacher’s status as ASCD makes principal proud

Staff report

A Canfield Village Middle School teacher was a finalist for the ASCD Outstanding Young Educator Award.

Sabrina Eaton is an eighth-grade history teacher at the school. The award is for teachers under 40. Eaton is 32.

The ASCD was previously known as the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and is an international organization founded in 1943.

This year’s annual OYEA focused on educating the whole child according to the ASCD’s website.

“Naturally, we were very sad that she didn’t get the award, but I am tremendously proud of how far she made it,” said Principal Jo Talor, who nominated Eaton.

Eaton said she was honored to have made it to the final 12 nominees in the competition.

“So often we never get recognition especially with all these high demands teachers have today,” Eaton said.

“I can’t believe my principal selected me and did that. It was an honor to be a finalist, and obviously I appreciate the support of the Canfield staff and my team members.”
