St. Charles kicks off Catholic Schools Week

Jillian Palusak was on a mission to glue as many snowflakes onto her winter-themed bookmark as she possibly could. Her mom, Julie, just managed to slow down Jillian's frenzied decorating.

St. Charles School began Catholic Schools Week with a bang with their Family Fun Fest event on Jan. 29, with food, games and arts and crafts.
Johnna Lewis and Denise Stowman planned the event to be kid-friendly and to remind St. Charles students why they love their Catholic school.
“This event has been running for close to 20 years, and every year each homeroom creates a themed game for the Fun Fest. It makes the event a real school effort and perfect for Catholic Schools Week,” said Lewis.
Games at the event included a melted snowball toss, bowling, putt-putt golf, and hula-hoop station. Homerooms also provided some artistic details for the students, with areas for the students to try colored hairspray and face painting. The students won tickets during games that could be cashed in for small toys and prizes.
Stowman liked that the Fun Fest was an uncomplicated event.
“We gave the space and the idea, and the rest is the creativity of our school and students. It’s a time to have fun with family and friends, with a little bit of breathing room outside of the classroom setting.”
For the remainder of Catholic Schools Week, St. Charles has also planned a winter rally and school open house for future students.
