Freshman girls beat Fitch

All 14 available Boardman High School freshman basketball team girls competed in its 50-25 win over Fitch Jan. 24.

Jenna Kuczek and Kelly Tomcsanyi each had a game-high 11 points. Megan Volosin scored seven, Mollie Donnelly added six on a pair of three-pointers and Nikki Negron, Nichole Hillard and Alexia Santiago each finished with four.

Boardman Glenwood tops Center

Boardman Glenwood’s seventh-grade girls basketball team avenged an earlier season loss Jan. 24 to their crosstown adversaries, Boardman Center, 39-20.

Leading scorers for the Lady Spartans were Krista Johnson and Bailey Brandt with 11 a piece. They were joined by nine from Natalie Wilson, six from Marisa Hanna and two from Jessica Fowler.

The Boardman Glenwood eighth-grade basketball team improved its record with a 48-19 victory over Center Jan. 24.

A well-balanced scoring attack and aggressive defense were the keys to the victory. Amanda Lipke had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Glenwood. Amanda Moss scored 14, Jessica Fox added eight, Stephanie DeMain scored four and

Three wrestlers tabbed as state caliber

Boardman wrestler John Dillon has been projected to win a state championship at 119 pounds by high school wrestling expert Brian Brakeman. He released his annual predictions last week for the 40th straight year.

Nick Mancini (103) was predicted No. 6 in his class and Nico Graziani (152) was chosen 10th best in the state.
