souper bowl of caring | Area churches participating


Area churches participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring on Sunday:

First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., Youngstown: Boy Scout Troop 55 will collect monetary donations and nonperishable food items. Donations will benefit Protestant Family Service.

Girard United Methodist Church, 22 N. Market St., Girard: Youth will collect soup and monetary donations. Donations will go to Emmanuel Care Center in Girard.

Good Hope Lutheran Church, 98 Homestead Drive, Boardman: The church calls on its youth “to make a difference.” They will collect cans of soup in the gathering room and donations in soup pots. All donations will be divided equally between the Sunday School Well Project and Good Hope food pantry. The pantry is low on supplies and could use a boost.

Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 550 N. Broad St., Canfield: The Confirmation Class will pass soup pots during the offering at worship at 5 p.m. today and Sunday. Donations will go to Operation Blessing.

Liberty Presbyterian Church, 1451 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, Liberty Township: The church will ask members to donate at least one dollar in soup pots. Deacons will use the funds to feed hungry people. Members will make “stone soup” from 10 a.m. to noon today at the church. Donations of vegetables or meat are needed. After worship on Sunday, the congregation will have a special coffee hour at which the stone soup will be served and the fable of stone soup will be shared.

St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave., Youngstown: There will be a collection of monetary donations to benefit the Red Door Caf .

Zion Lutheran Church, 10857 Main St., New Middletown: The church challenges Pittsburgh Steeler fans to step up and show their pride in the football team by how they help the community. Money will go the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley.
