Exchange students need hosts
Students from around the world got a lesson in American government.
Academic Year in America exchange students traveled to the state capitol with Cindy Anderson, local coordinator and supervisor for the Academic Year in America, Jan. 11 to meet with Senator Schiavoni.
Schiavoni took time out of his busy schedule to sit with the students in his office and answer questions they had about the government. He showed them where he sits during meetings and explained the process.
Afterward, the group took a tour of the State House and began to take pictures when, John R. Kasich jumped into the shot and introduced himself one day after becoming Ohio’s governor.
To host a student in August, contact Anderson at 234-855-0827 or visit www.academicyear.org.
The exchange students study in an American high schools for a semester or full year and immerse themselves into American culture, teach others about their culture, learn about the school system and become part of a local family. They are screened, know English, have health insurance and their own spending money.
