Another tough "Minute to Win It" task was to balance 5 apples and have it stand freely in under a minute. John Holloway (right) did most of the stacking, while his son Robert (left) kept his hands ready to catch the apples if they fell.

One "Minute to Win It" game was in the library, where students had to blow plastic cups off the table with the air of a balloon. Christopher Lattanzio (left) used the air to push off the last half of his cups from the table. His dad, Tony, had another full balloon at the ready to get the few left.

Although Poland Union PTA loves getting families together to support their school, they’ve found that sometimes it’s appropriate to divide up the family for one night.

On Jan. 20, the PTA hosted its ninth annual Father-Son night, and provided lots of fun for the boys with a “Minute to Win It” theme.

“We know that the dads of our students love to support their kids,” said event co-chair Carol Dalesio. “but the problems arise when we try and get the dads here during the day. So, every other year, we do Father-Daughter night, and this year, it’s Father-Son.”

The theme of the PTA’s Father-Son night this year was based on the television show “Minute to Win It,” where teams must perform odd tasks in under one minute. Tasks the PTA provided included keeping a feather airborne, balancing five cupcakes on your forehead, and blowing plastic cups off a table with the air from one balloon.

“It’s fun for the kids, and the kids have the chance to get some major bragging rights tomorrow morning,” said Dalesio.

“It’s about watching everyone be silly and making fools of themselves, really,” admitted Union principal Carmella Smallhoover.

If the guests did complete their tasks, dads and sons won tickets for prizes given by the PTA.

For Union student Dino Mario Dalesio, the night really was all about fun.

“The games have everyone doing all of these crazy tasks and I love trying them and watching others try, too.”
