Ryan T. Battison, 26, of Tibbetts Wick Road, Girard, has been sentenced to five years’ probation and 60 days in the Trumbull County Jail for injuring a Girard police officer with his car.

Battison received his sentence this week in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court after pleading guilty to aggravated vehicular assault in November.

Police said Battison drove his vehicle into Girard police Capt. John Villecco on Nov. 6 and then left the scene.

Villecco had stopped a vehicle on South State Street (U.S. Route 422) about 1 a.m. and was standing near the vehicle when Battison, heading in the opposite direction, crossed the center line and struck Villecco, fracturing his wrist.

A fellow officer saw Villecco get hit and followed Battison’s vehicle, though Battison fled on foot and eluded capture.

Police determined it was Battison through vehicle records.
