Demolition of the former Girard High School under way
GIRARD — Joe Jeswald, school superintendent, said demolition of the former Girard High School on North Ward Avenue is under way. It began in the back of the school in the gym area and is moving toward the front of the school. He said demolition should take about a month to complete.
Jeswald said usable equipment and furniture went to other buildings in the district.
Jeswald said a sandstone block with Girard High School name on it will be salvaged along with other matching blocks. He said the district plans to set up a tribute to former school buildings at the site of the new Girard Junior/Senior High School on Shannon Road. Brass plates from other former school buildings have been saved and will be used in the display.
He said once demolition is completed at the old high school site and when weather permits the area will be graded and seeded. The school board will determine what to do with the land.
