Opening acts bring wealth of experience

Staff report

Opening for Buckcherry will be Hellyeah, a supergroup of sorts whose members come from some pedigreed bands.

Hellyeah’s debut album sold nearly 400,000 copies in the U.S. and produced two top-10 singles. The band’s newest album, “Stampede,” debuted at No. 8 on Billboard and has sold more than 90,000 copies to date fueled by the singles “Hell of a Time” and “Better Man.”

The band members are drummer Vinnie Paul from Pantera, one of the only metal bands to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart; vocalist Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbett from Mudvayne (Grammy nominated, with 3.3 million records sold); guitarist Tom Maxwell from Nothingface; and bassist Bob Zilla of Damageplan.

In a recent interview with examiner.com, Maxwell explained how the band’s name fits its philosophy.

“When I was a kid growing up, going to rock concerts, there was a heavy-metal parking lot,” said Maxwell. “People tailgating at rock concerts, hanging out, blasting music, jamming. Having a great time. You know, if you fast forward through the ’90s, when grunge hit, all the politically charged bands, you know, with bands making a statement ... that lifestyle kinda stopped a little bit. It just became a little more serious. And even up through the last 10 years, there really hasn’t been anything like that out there. So I think maybe it might be going towards a ... retro, or whatever, kind of mentality.”

Also on the bill for Tuesday’s concert at Covelli Centre are All That Remains and The Damned Things.

All That Remains is one of hard rock’s most impressive breakthrough stories of recent years. The Massachusetts-based quintet cracked the Billboard top 10 with 2010’s “For We Are Many” and is one of just a handful of acts to take part in the trifecta of metal: the Mayhem Festival, Ozzfest and the Vans Warped Tour.

Like Hellyeah, The Damned Things also brings a wealth of hard-rock experience. Band members Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano came from Anthrax; Keith Buckley from Every Time I Die; and Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley from Fall Out Boy. The Damned Thing’s debut album, “Ironiclast,” in December. The record combines classic-rock anthems and powerful melodies with a heavy- metal intensity.
