YOUNGSTOWN

Two men pleaded guilty to charges related to the drive-by shooting of a 7-year-old girl on the city’s North Side last year.

Alfonda Madison, 23, and Asa Bush, 22, who both listed Dearborn Avenue addresses, had both been indicted on four counts of felonious assault with gun specifications.

Both men entered into plea agreements with Mahoning County prosecutors late last week and each pleaded guilty to one count of felonious assault. The remaining three counts were dropped against both men.

A gun specification against Bush was not dropped in the plea agreement, however.

Both men also pleaded guilty to felony obstructing official business in a separate case.

The plea agreements for both men are contingent upon testimony against co-defendant Samson Snowden, 20, of Cedar Lane. Snowden also is charged with four counts of felonious assault with gun specifications.

Bush could be sentenced to up to 16 years in prison on the charges against him. Madison could be sentenced to as many as 13 years behind bars.

Prosecutors, under terms of the agreement, however, are recommending four years in prison for Bush and probation for Madison. They are to appear Feb. 11 before Judge James C. Evans of county common pleas court for sentencing.

Prosecutors contend Madison, Bush and Snowden shot the child in both legs while she sat in the back seat of a relative’s car at a convenience store on Logan Avenue in June.

Witnesses told police a tan vehicle containing four men drove down Saranac Avenue west of Logan with someone firing shots at the car containing the child.

Family members said the child and other family members had been headed to a local swimming pool. The family had piled into several cars heading to the recreation facility.
