Mahoning grand jury indicts North Side man for beating, holding girlfriend hostage


YOUNGSTOWN — A Mahoning County grand jury has indicted a 39-year-old man accused of beating his girlfriend and holding her hostage for a week.

Michael Gillespie, of Illinois Avenue, is charged with domestic violence, menacing by stalking, two counts of felonious assault and two counts of kidnapping. He is in Mahoning County jail on a $110,000 bond.

Ohio Adult Parole Authority employees went to Gillespie’s North Side address to check on him Jan. 25. The parole officers noticed a woman inside the house visibly shaking with fear.
