YOUNGSTOWN

The John J. McDonough Museum of Art is celebrating its 20th year of exhibiting contemporary art with an invitational exhibition of works by alumni titled “Reunion” from Feb. 19 through March 18.

The entire faculty and emeritus faculty of Youngstown State University’s department of art were asked to submit names of former students whose art and design careers they have followed. From these submissions came a group of 60 artists featured in this exhibition.

The artists, who live across the nation and as far away as Taiwan, have careers ranging from art professors to photographers, painters, jewelers, animators and sculptors. Some run their own design houses and galleries.

Youngstown artist Ed Hallahan will create a site-specific outdoor installation adjacent to the museum. Larry Davis, senior show producer for Disney, will display his fantastical creatures made from found objects. Original renderings of Honda series cars designed by Douglas Halbert, who was chief designer for Honda of North America for 30 years, will be exhibited. A 30-foot history wall designed by Kurt Emch will commemorate the McDonough.

The opening celebration will take place at the annual Mad About the Arts benefit at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 25. A ticketed event, Mad About the Arts benefits the McDonough and SMARTS (Students Motivated by the Arts). For tickets or information, call SMARTS at 330-941-2787.
