1 reported dead in low-income apartment fire


ALIQUIPPA, Pa. (AP) — One person is reported dead in a fire at a western Pennsylvania apartment building for elderly and low-income residents.

Beaver County 911 dispatchers say the coroner is on the scene at the Towne Towers apartment building in Aliquippa, about 20 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.

The fire was reported shortly after 5:30 a.m. Thursday. Officials say the fire was confined to a single unit on the fourth floor of the five-story building. A Web site that describes the property says it contains 60 studio and one-bedroom apartments.

A call to the management office was not immediately returned.

There are no other immediate reports of injuries.
