Police: Man admits stealing sick Pa. boy’s bike
HYDE PARK, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania State Police say a man has confessed to stealing a bike that had been donated to his neighbor, an 8-year-old with leukemia.
The bike was stolen Dec. 5 while the boy, Aaron Jones, was with his family on a Make-A-Wish trip to Disney World and Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla.
Thirty-nine-year-old Jason Danka remained jailed Wednesday following his arrest Tuesday on charges including burglary and theft. Online court records don’t list an attorney for him.
A charity had given the bike to Jones after he was diagnosed with leukemia in 2009.
Police say they found the bicycle at Danka’s residence in Hyde Park, northeast of Pittsburgh. They say Danka had repainted it and that they were able to tell it was the boy’s bike by scraping off the paint.
