The abrupt closing of Jillian’s in the Southern Park Mall on Sunday leaves some customers wondering what to do with the gaming points they’ve earned there.
One thing is for sure: They won’t be able to redeem them at the Cleveland Heights location.
According to Tim Maguire, general manager of the Cleveland Heights Jillian’s, the restaurant’s parent company, JBC Entertainment, sold the location to local owners Oct. 11.
“We are no longer owned by JBC, so we don’t even have the capability to honor the points,” Maguire said.
Maguire said the Cleveland Heights location will be renamed to reflect the change in ownership.
JBC Entertainment did not return requests for comment Monday, and it is unknown whether any of the other nine Jillian’s locations will close or whether points earned at the Boardman location will be honored at those restaurants, none of which are in Ohio.
Jillian’s Entertainment Holdings of Louisville, Ky., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection May 23, 2004.
Sheryl Raulin, marketing director for the Southern Park Mall, said JBC Entertainment had let its lease expire, although she did not give the date of expiration. Raulin said the mall’s management office is looking into new tenants for the space.
The Boardman location opened to much fanfare June 12, 1999, offering customers a place to “Eat, drink and play.”
Patrons could watch their favorite sports teams while they dined in the restaurant and follow up their meal with arcade games, bowling and billiards.
On Monday, the restaurant was dimly lit, and a sign hung on the door thanking customers for “12 wonderful years.”
