Help your postal carrier to make sure you get your mail

CLEVELAND — With another winter storm bearing down on the northeastern Ohio region, Stan Thornton, acting postal service safety manager for the Northern Ohio District, is asking for assistance in helping carriers be safe as they deliver the mail.

“Every attempt to deliver the mail will be made,” Thornton said. “Letter carriers will face the elements,” Thornton continued, “and to help them make their appointed rounds, all we ask is that customers clear snow and ice from the approach to the mail box.”

In very inclement weather, mail delivery may take a little longer, Thornton explained.

Letter carriers are advised to not risk a vehicle accident or a fall if access to a mailbox is not free of snow or ice, he explained. In those cases, mail may be returned and delivery attempted again the next day.
