WARREN
Andrew Thomas, 28, of Lodwick Drive Northwest, pleaded innocent to felony assault in Warren Municipal Court on Thursday in the head-butting of a Warren police officer Wednesday.
Thomas also pleaded innocent to misdemeanor domestic violence, and a temporary protection order was granted against him. He is in the Trumbull County jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
Police were called at 4:15 p.m. to the home Thomas shares with a 23-year-old woman regarding an argument between the two. Thomas agreed to leave.
But calls came in an hour later from the woman and a neighbor, who said Thomas broke down the apartment door and was beating the woman.
Sgt. Dan Mason and two other officers handcuffed Thomas and placed him under arrest. While Mason was looking at his portable radio to determine why it was not working, Thomas flung his head back and head-butted Mason on the side of Mason’s face, a police report said.
The female later told police Thomas had hit her three times and head-butted her during an argument over another woman.
If convicted of the assault, Thomas could go to prison for 18 months.
