POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Dec. 19

Harassment: A James Street woman told police her teenage daughter received unwanted calls.

Attempted theft: Someone tried to steal property from a vehicle in the 4000 block of Via Cassia Drive.

Dec. 21

Trespassing: A Highland Avenue woman reported her former husband trespassed on her property.

Dec. 23

Criminal mischief: Roughly 155 feet of lawn damage was reported in the 2300 block of Knollwood Drive.

BOARDMAN

Dec. 23

Theft: Justin T. Bittner, 21, of 4391 Hawkins Road, New Waterford, and a 16-year-old East Palestine girl were charged in the theft of clothing from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Arrest: Andre Ortiz, 32, of 90 Washington Blvd., Boardman, was taken into custody on a warrant from Youngstown accusing him of violating a court order.

Felonious assault: A Hubert, N.C., man being treated for an injury at St. Elizabeth Health Center’s Boardman Campus told police that someone stabbed him in the abdomen after he stopped at a Virginia gas station en route to East Palestine.

Aggravated menacing: An Erskine Avenue woman reported a Youngs-town man, while at her home, received a threat implying he would be shot.

Breaking and entering: A West Boulevard woman discovered several Christmas gifts missing from a storage locker someone had broken into.

Burglary: To a Willow Drive apartment through a rear door. Stolen were a laptop computer, numerous pieces of jewelry and other property, for an estimated $4,050 loss.

Dec. 24

Theft: Police took into custody 22-year-old Shayla N. Veal, 23, Clifton Drive, Boardman, on a warrant after she had been accused of trying to steal eight Christmas decorations from Family Dollar, 4030 Market St.

Theft: Amanda M. Korda, 30, of 330 Hilton Ave., Youngstown, was charged with stealing $47 worth of toys from Walmart and released on a summons.

Domestic violence: Authorities arrested 22-year-old Stephen W. Jones, who listed addresses in Boardman and New Castle, Pa., on a felony warrant after a woman alleged Jones had grabbed her neck and choked her during an argument in a vehicle near Tippecanoe Road.

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a garage in the 6000 block of Tam-o-Shanter Drive and took a set of golf clubs, a TV and tools.

Assault: A Waseka Lane woman alleged two family members pulled her hair and punched her face during an argument, and she was found with bruises and a bloody nose. One family member alleged the accuser had attacked her.

Criminal mischief: Someone drove through and damaged a lawn in the 4500 block of Waseka Lane. Police also received about a dozen similar complaints regarding yards on nearby New England Boulevard and Tudor Lane.

Theft: Police booked 48-year-old Gerald R. Brown, 223 Mumford Drive, Youngstown, after $49 worth of blue jeans and other items were stolen from Walmart.

Burglary: To a residence in the 7400 block of Ranier Trail, possibly with a duplicate key. A $125 coat and a wallet were missing.

Attempted robbery: A clerk at a Speedway gas station, 649 E. Midlothian Blvd., told authorities a gunman in a dark gray hoodie demanded money. The worker refused and the robberleft on a bicycle.

Dec. 25

Theft: Youngstown police handed 38-year-old Tracy R. Marks, 2748 Tampa Ave., Youngstown, to township authorities. Marks was wanted on a warrant from Mahoning County Area Court in Boardman.

Theft: A satellite radio was among items removed from a car in the 90 block of Homestead Drive.

Menacing: A Huntington Drive man reported getting three calls in which someone threatened to kill him and his family.

Stolen property: Police discovered a stolen all-terrain vehicle in a carport in the 5700 block of Sheridan Road.

Burglary: Occurred in the 1800 block of Palo Verde Drive after someone had broken several windows. It was unknown if anything was missing.

Domestic violence: Authorities arrested 18-year-old Damond L. Brown Jr., 6592 Millcreek Blvd., Boardman, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, on two counts of domestic violence, one alleging he had slammed a door on and injured the left arm of a family member. Also taken into custody was Mary L. Hall, 57, same address, who was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Dec. 26

Theft: A Youngstown boy, 16, was charged with stealing an over-the-counter prescription from Walmart.

Possible theft/damage: An Arlene Avenue woman alleged her landlord removed some of her belongings without permission. The landlord, who discovered two damaged door jambs, said the woman had failed to pay two months’ worth of rent.

Possible theft: A man reported his wallet lost or stolen at Southern Park Mall.

Theft: Several pieces of jewelry were stolen from The Great Phoenix Trading Co. in Southern Park Mall.

Theft: A man noticed $100 missing from his Erskine Avenue home.

Theft: Fifty-seven pills were removed from a vehicle in the 7300 block of Southern Boulevard.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 1200 block of Doral Drive used a key to damage a portion of a car’s finish.

Theft: Two women in their mid-20s stole baby formula and deodorant from Rite Aid Pharmacy, 307 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Theft/criminal damaging: A car at the Southern Park Mall was found with a broken window after an MP3 player and $50 had been taken.

Drugs: Stacey N. Noble, 22, of 342 Somer St., Leetonia, faced a felony charge of heroin possession after police pulled her over near Southern Boulevard. Suspected heroin that Noble admitted was hers was in her purse, a report said.

Arrest: 29-year-old Nicole L. Degenaro, 2700 Taft Ave., Youngstown, who was wanted on two bench warrants from Mahoning County Area Court, Boardman. Degenaro also was charged with obstructing official business when, police said, she provided a false name.

Dec. 27

Burglary: Took place in the 40 block of Alburn Drive via a side door. A $300 gold necklace was missing.

Theft by deception: Vincent C. Cameron II, 26, was arrested at his residence, 1843 Woodlawn Ave., Boardman, on a misdemeanor theft-by-deception charge after a Cleveland man told police that after having given $400 to the seller of an iPhone, he went to a Boardman-Poland Road business to activate the device and found it could not be used.

Counterfeit: Two phony $10 bills were passed at Hungry Howie’s Pizza, 5205 Market St.

Intimidation: An employee with a Southern Park Mall business told police a former worker made about 30 threatening calls to pressure the store to drop charges related to an internal theft investigation.

Theft: A woman reported her purse stolen at a McClurg Road business.

Assault: An employee of a South Avenue group home told police a patient was struck with a broom. The man was treated for minor injuries.

Burglary: To a residence in the 4600 block of Hopkins Road, from which about 350 feet of copper piping valued at $3,800 was taken.

Dec. 28

Menacing: A nurse with Vibra Hospital, 8049 South Ave., told officers an irate patient threatened to have a family member harm her.

Weapon: After receiving information about gunshots, police found several bullet holes in a Jaguar Drive residence and a dent in a garage-door panel apparently hit by a bullet, along with four shell casings in the street. No one was injured, however.
