Interim dean named at NEOMED

Richard J. Kasmer has been named interim dean of the Northeast Ohio Medical University College of Pharmacy, effective earlier this month.

Dr. Kasmer most recently served as the associate dean for academic affairs for the College of Pharmacy and associate professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the university. The position was vacated by David D. Allen, inaugural dean of the College of Pharmacy, who stepped down after more than five years in that role.

Dr. Kasmer has served in various faculty and administrative roles in the College of Pharmacy since 2006. Before his appointment as associate dean, he worked as a clinical pharmacist in ambulatory care for the VA Medical Center in Cleveland, and as vice president and director of clinical operations at Collaborative Clinical Research, Inc. for 10 years.

Dr. Kasmer earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., and completed a post-doctorate residency training program in ambulatory care at the VA Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo. He later earned a Juris Doctor degree from Cleveland State University Marshall College of Law in Cleveland.

Dr. Kasmer is a frequent invited lecturer on the topics of pharmacy law, nursing law and health-care-related issues, and he is certified as an approved provider for Ohio jurisprudence continuing education.
