City government leaders will be ready to take their posts at the start of the new year.

Girard Municipal Court Judge Jeffrey Adler performed his first official act Friday evening, swearing in the city of Hubbard’s new mayor and other elected officials.

John D. Darko promised to fulfill his duties as the city of Hubbard’s mayor to a full room of more than 50 observers.

He is replacing outgoing Mayor Richard Keenan, a former 4th-Ward councilman, who was seated in 2009 to replace longtime Mayor Arthur Magee.

“I have a good council,” said Mayor Darko. “But, our plates are pretty full.”

Keenan said he has had many conversations with the city’s new mayor and will continue to keep in contact.

Darko “is a great guy for our community,” he said.

Mark A. Villano, law director; William J. Williams, president of council; Bonnie Viele, 1st Ward council member; Lisha A. Pompili-Baumiller, 3rd Ward; Dan Havalo, 4th Ward; and at-large councilmen Raymond L. Moffitt and Justin Silvidi also took their oaths to serve in their respective roles.

Timothy E. O’Hara was out of town, but will be sworn in as 2nd Ward councilman, next week, said Adler.

Also sworn in were Frederick Hanley, Hubbard Township trustee, and Sue Goterba, fiscal officer.
