Valley chiropractor works with USA swimmers

Andrew Schmutz of The Chiropractic and Sports Therapy Center in Struthers has been named to the medical staff for USA Swimming’s “Duel in the Pool,” to be held at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta.

The event features 35 top U.S. swimmers, including 21 Olympians, competing against a team of European all-stars. Team USA features stars such as Ryan Lochte, Natalie Coughlin, Amanda Beard and Missy Franklin.

The 16-year-old Franklin recently broke a world record in the 200 backstroke, becoming the first individual to break a world record since the high tech suits were banned last year.

“I’m very excited to be a part of this event. It will be my third event with national team members over the past year and a half,” said Schmutz. “Between the talent set to compete, the live television coverage and the venue (site of the 1996 Olympic Games), this is set up to be one of the best events leading up to the Olympics next year in London.”

Schmutz, a Boardman resident and alumnus, was a four-year letter winner under current Boardman swimming coach Terry O’Halloran.
