State seeks Ohioans missing $3.6M in tax refunds

COLUMBUS (AP) — The state says it’s having trouble finding Ohioans owed an estimated $3.6 million in tax refunds.

That’s the total from about 12,000 refund checks that came back to the state in 2010 and 2011 because the taxpayer moved away or provided a faulty mailing address.

Ohio Tax Commissioner Joseph Testa says in a statement that given the tight economy, his department is working especially hard to get the money to the rightful recipients.

The refunds in limbo range from a few dollars to several thousand.

Testa says just a small percentage of taxpayers don’t get their refunds because of address problems. He says people who think they may be missing a refund should contact the Ohio Department of Taxation.
