The Youngstown Phantoms Pee Wee hockey team entered the Christmas break on a sour note, losing twice Dec. 17 and 18 by a combined score of 14-1.

The Phantoms were coming off a string of wins or ties and poised to climb higher in the league standings, as they faced off against top level teams.

At home on Saturday, the squad gave up six second-period goals and couldn’t recover, falling to the Arctic Foxes 7-0 at the Ice Zone in Boardman.

Youngstown shut out the Foxes in the first period to stay close. But in the second period, the Foxes used their size and speed to put up six goals. They added a goal in the last period.

On Sunday, the Phantoms traveled to Indiana, Pa., to take on the first-place Indiana Chiefs.

The older, more physical Indiana squad turned a 1-all contest into a 7-1 victory.

After Indiana took the lead at 8:05 of the first period, Devin Whitaker (Boardman) scored on a breakaway goal to tie it up.

But the Chiefs erupted for six unanswered goals, including four in the second period, to seal the win.

Youngstown goalie Colin Frost (Boardman) faced 26 shots on goal, while the Phantoms only attempted six.
