Center offers free programs on winter snow sports

Celebrate Winter Trails Day, a free introduction to winter sports at Jennings Environmental Education Center, is set for Jan. 7
Two snowshoeing programs for people age 8 and older and two cross-country skiing programs for those 12 and older will be conducted.
A morning snowshoeing session from 10 a.m. to noon will be repeated in the afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m. Each session will include an introduction to the sport and a winter-activity hike. Snowshoe equipment will be provided, although personal equipment is welcomed.
Concurrently, a cross-country skiing session will be from 10 a.m. to noon and repeated from 1 to 3 p.m. Equipment for these sessions will not be provided. Participants must bring and use their own cross-country ski equipment. Each session will include an introduction, basic instruction and guided skiing on Jennings’ trails.
Registration is required. Register either online at www.dcnr.state.pa.us/ calendar/list.asp or by contacting the center at 724-794-6011 no later than Saturday for each session.
Winter Trails Day, a national event in its 17th year, offers children and adults new to snowshoeing and cross-country skiing an opportunity to explore these snow sports for free.
Jennings is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled.
