CPR/AED classes

The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is offering classes during January at its Boardman training center at 8381 Market St. in the Adamas Plaza. All certifications for CPR/AED and 1st Aid classes are for two years with opportunity for on-line in-service training at no cost every three months. Lifestyle program

NEW CASTLE, PA.

The Jameson Hospital Dean Ornish Program is offering “The Spectrum Lifestyle Improvement Program,” a six-week lifestyle improvement series that explores the impact of nutrition, exercise, stress management and social support has on total well being. The Spectrum’s purpose is to help people feel better, live longer, lose weight and gain health.

The Jameson Hospital Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease is designed for participants to begin to explore making lifestyle changes based on their health issues and preferences.

In a recently released 2011 Outcomes Report by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, participants in the Jameson Dean Ornish Program ranked number one overall in weight loss, lower body mass index and increased exercise minutes per week.

Coping with cancer

HERMITAGE, Pa.

The American Cancer Society will present “Look Good, Feel Better,” a free program designed to help women cope with appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon at 875 N. Health lecture

A free lecture series, “New Year, New You - 12 Months to Opitmal Health,” to help men and women to get healthier for the new year, is offered by Dr. Ted Suzelis starting Jan. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at his new Boardman officer located in Southbridge West, at 755 Boardman-Canfield Road., Suite D-3. “New Year, New You - 12 Months to Optimal Health” is a lifestyle program to teach participants through the process of making the changes needed to live a longer and healthier lives. Beeghly Oaks Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center are offering free help to persons 60 and over with applications for community services such as utility assistance and utility disconnections, and support groups. Also there will be information about living wills and durable power of attorney, review of medical coverages such as Medicare and Medicaid.
