New wilmington

Christine Irene Taylor is in Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bond after a felony warrant was issued by Magisterial District Judge Scott McGrath.

The charges include a felony and misdemeanor charge of access device fraud and misdemeanor charges of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.

Taylor was charged as a result of an investigation into a theft that occurred Nov. 5 at Westminster College, in which a student’s wallet and its contents were taken.

One of the items included a $600 check issued by Theta Chi Fraternity, of which the student was a member.

The fraternity stopped payment on the check and employees at Huntington Bank on Ellwood Road confiscated it the next day when a female customer attempted to cash it.

The bank was able to identify the female customer, and police questioned her Nov. 22.

The customer identified Taylor as the person who made the check payable to her and solicited her to cash the check.

Police believe the female customer had no knowledge the check had been stolen.

Taylor denied stealing the wallet and the check or providing the check to the female customer.

She did admit to being in the room when the wallet was stolen, police said.

The victim identified Taylor as the person sitting behind him during the theft.

Taylor was arrested last Friday at her Butler Pike residence.

Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. today.
