GE to invest $72M in Grove City facilities
Staff report
GROVE CITY, Pa.
General Electric Co. will invest $72 million in a diesel- engine plant and to upgrade another facility here.
The company said the project will maintain 100 jobs and add 150 more by 2013.
Approximately $35 million will go toward a diesel-engine plant. An additional $37 million will improve an already standing plant, upgrading technology and increasing productivity.
GE Transportation said it expects demand for remanufacturing services to increase significantly in coming years, mostly due to the increase in routine locomotive overhaul cycles and the need to comply with stringent Environmental Protection Agency emissions standards for diesel engines, set to take effect in 2013.
“This new facility will enable GE Transportation to better serve its customers while meeting a dramatic increase in demand for remanufacturing in the next few years,” said Richard Simpson, Global Services Supply Chain Operations Leader, in a release.
GE Transportation, based in Erie, Pa., employs about 11,000 worldwide.
