Police continue to investigate an attempted Christmas Eve robbery at Speedway, 649 E. Midlothian Blvd. Officers were called to the Speedway about 8 p.m. Saturday, and an employee said a man brandished a small revolver and demanded money, according to reports.

The employee told the suspect to leave and said the suspect rode away on a bicycle, reports state.

Home burglarized

Police are investigating a burglary in the 1800 block of Palo Verde Drive. The home-owner said he left his house about 1:30 p.m. Saturday and returned about 7:20 a.m. Sunday to find garage windows broken, door windows smashed and pry marks on other windows, police said.

According to reports, the man told officers he noticed his bedroom dresser rummaged through and papers moved in the kitchen and that he would take an inventory to determine what was missing.

Motorist shot

A 25-year-old Poland man told police he was trying to get his wife an iced coffee when he was shot.

The victim told police he was eastbound on Kirk Road from South Raccoon Road at 1:45 a.m. Saturday when he heard a “pop” near Meridian Road.

At first, he told police, he thought someone threw a rock from a silver Ford Taurus that had pulled beside him in the turning lane but then realized he had been shot in the leg.

The victim saw the Taurus turn north on one of the streets west of Meridian Road before he went to Akron Children’s Hospital of Mahoning Valley in Boardman. He later was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Police noted a bullet hole in the driver’s door in the victim’s Dodge pickup truck.

Software updated

Girard

Microsoft awarded the Girard Multi-Generational Center $33,948 in software updates Tuesday, allowing the 10-year-old service center to update its computers.

According to a release, the money will be used to update the center’s server and the 29 computers throughout the building.

The Girard Multi- Generational Center is a nonprofit organization providing assistance to senior citizens, students and the community.

Write-in candidate

WARREN

One person filed by Tuesday’s deadline to run as a write-in candidate in Trumbull County: Elaine R. Mastromatteo of Bristolville, who wants to be county central- committee member for the Green Party.

The Trumbull County Board of Elections ruled Dec. 15 that Mastromatteo was ineligible to run for the position as a named candidate because she filed an incorrect petition form.

Mastromatteo has no opposition for the position and is the only Green Party candidate in the county.
