Pa. state trooper subdued by stun gun to get booze rehab

GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — A state trooper jailed since local police used a stun gun to subdue him during a domestic dispute in his western Pennsylvania home plans to enter an alcohol treatment program.

Forty-nine-year-old George Walters, of Delmont, was granted a continuance of his preliminary hearing Tuesday so he can enter the program. Walters will remain in the Westmoreland County Prison until he’s accepted into a rehab program.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that police used a stun gun to subdue Walters after his wife reported he was yelling, screaming and had kicked her in the leg about 3 a.m. Friday. Walters was already awaiting trial on drunken-driving charges filed in September.

Walters is still employed at the barracks in Greensburg, but is subject to an internal affairs investigation.
