BREAKING NEWS: North Side standoff ends peacefully


YOUNGSTOWN — The suspect who held police at bay for several hours today surrendered without further incident. Police identified him as Kevon Williams, in his 20s.

Near 12;15 p.m., the suspect came out of an apartment complex in the 2300 block of Ohio Avenue on the city's North Side.

Police said he will be charged with inducing panic and domestic violence. Police were searching the apartment for weapons.

The standoff began around 6:30 a.m., when Williams allegedly kicked his girlfriend out of the apartment, but held her baby, another infant, and five other people as hostages That is when police were contacted. The children and the five people were subsequently released unharmed.

The Crisis Response Team and SWAT was notified and spent hours trying to convince Williams to leave the building and give himself up.
