Grizzly-bear lecture at CVN park lodge

Brecksville

Kerry Gunther from Yellowstone National Park will present a lecture titled “Grizzlies!” at 7 p.m. Jan. 20 at Happy Days Lodge. Admission is $6 ($3 for children age 3-12).

The lecture, sponsored by Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) and the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park, will be the first Lyceum Lecture in this year’s series. Conservancy members can purchase all five Lyceum Lectures for $20.

Advance sales are available by calling 330-657-2909.

Times have changed since the days when visitors at Yellowstone climbed onto bleachers to watch bears compete for trash-dump scraps.

As head of the park’s Bear Management Team, Gunther, a wildlife biologist, helped modernize Yellowstone’s approach. Gunther will discuss grizzly-bear behavior, resource management and educational techniques and challenges that are still facing park staff.
