Reindeer recovering from highway adventure in Ohio

MASSILLON, Ohio

A reindeer named Betty is recovering with bruises and bumps, but no red nose, after tumbling from the back of a truck onto a northeast Ohio highway.

Her handlers from Stump Hill Farm near Canton said a loose bolt caused the livestock truck’s rear gate to open as Betty was headed to a holiday appearance at a party.

Drivers on state Route 21 in Norton had to dodge the dazed reindeer walking down the middle of lanes, and 911 calls poured in about the roaming animal.

Tricyn Huntsman runs the farm with her parents and told the Akron Beacon Journal the gate has since been fixed with extra bolts and a lock.

She said the truck now will be “like an armored car.”

Deputies: Man returned to beer after bank robbery

PORT RICHEY, Fla.

Authorities say a Tampa Bay area man ordered a beer at a bar, left to rob a nearby bank, then came back to finish his beer.

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said 52-year-old John Robin Whittle was arrested at the Hayloft Bar in Port Richey.

Deputies said he’s the man who robbed a Wells-Fargo bank branch earlier, but not before stopping off at the Hayloft for a brew.

A bartender there said Whittle ordered a beer, disappeared for about 30 minutes and then returned to his beer.

Deputies said they arrested him at the bar about 10 minutes after he left the bank.

Whittle remained in jail on $10,000 bond. No attorney was listed for him.
