Cincy schools combining middle, high schools
CINCINNATI (AP) — Cincinnati city schools are taking another look at how to boost student performance by merging some middle schools with high schools.
Superintendent Mary Ronan says the change means better academic performance, such as younger students being able to take Algebra 1 in the eighth grade.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reported today that eight of the district’s 17 high schools will be grades 7-12 by the 2013-14 school year.
Baltimore has opened 15 grade 6-12 schools since 2008, while Columbus City Schools opened its first 7-12 school this year and plans to open another next year.
Education experts say a variety of solutions can help students academically and districts need to figure out the solutions that work best for them.
