YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County grand jury indicted six Youngstown residents and a Lake Milton resident on drug charges and on a charge of engaging in corrupt activity as part of a cocaine and heroin trafficking ring.

“This was a larger-scale heroin trafficking ring,” said Martin P. Desmond, an assistant county prosecutor. “We have suppliers involved, the large-scale suppliers as well as the smaller distributors.

“This is a whole organization that was involved and that was taken down, or at least dismantled, with this investigation,” he said, referring to the engaging-in-corrupt-activity charge against all defendants.

The street value involved in the heroin trafficking allegations in the indictment is about $200,000, he estimated.

Jamal J. Vaughn, 27, of South Lakeview Avenue, was indicted Thursday on three counts of heroin trafficking with forfeiture specifications for $6,490, four digital scales, four flat-screen TVs, four laptop computers, a camera, two iPads, a Verizon electronic tablet and two revolvers, all purportedly ill-gotten gains from the drug sales.

Vaughn has been released from county jail on $125,000 bond, Desmond said.

Danielle Johnson, 32, of Hillcrest Drive, Lake Milton, was charged with one count of cocaine possession.

Brandon T. Jackson, 32, of Stiles Avenue, was charged with one count of heroin trafficking.

Dewaylyn Colvin, 30, of Nelson Avenue, was charged with four counts of heroin trafficking, one count of OxyContin possession, and being a felon with a gun after a 2005 involuntary manslaughter conviction. He also faces a forfeiture specification for $3,780. Desmond said Colvin likely was the top dealer involved.

Andre V. Hallman, 22, of Wirt Street was charged with one count of heroin possession, with a forfeiture specification for $200.

Quintin Prieto, 27, of Liberty Road was charged with one count of heroin possession and one count of tampering with evidence, with a forfeiture specification for $5,937.

The charges against Hallman and Prieto and three of the counts against Colvin stem from alleged offenses that occurred Wednesday, the day before the grand jury issued the indictment.

Adrian Henderson, 33, of Nelson Avenue, was charged with two counts of heroin trafficking.

The case was investigated by the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force.

In an unrelated matter, Gary Thomas, 24, who is listed as homeless, and Kaylon D. Blair, 23, of East Auburndale Avenue were indicted in the Nov. 29 robbery of the Country Fair, 1143 N. Canfield-Niles Road, Austintown.

They’re charged with aggravated robbery and kidnapping with firearm specifications, improperly handling a gun in a motor vehicle and possessing a stolen firearm. Thomas also was charged with being a felon with a gun.
