Ursuline Sisters make two appointments

The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown have made two recent appointments. Peggy Eicher has been named director of Motherhouse personnel. Michele Ristich Gatts, media and public relations coordinator, has added the duties and title of development coordinator.

Audiologist president of national group

Eric Hagberg, owner of Hearing Innovations with locations in Boardman and Liberty, has been elected to serve as president of The Academy of Doctors of Audiology.

The ADA is a premiere network and resource for audiologists in private practice.

“Dr. Hagberg has been long-recognized as a leader within the profession of audiology,” said ADA Executive Director Stephanie Czuhajewski. “He was elected by his peers because of his proven leadership abilities and his tireless support of student initiatives that encourage autonomous practice.”

Hagberg took office on Nov. 5 during the annual ADA Member Business Meeting, which was held in conjunction with the ADA Annual Convention in Bonita Springs, Fla.

Hagberg has been serving hearing impaired members of the Mahoning Valley since 1975. He received his Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree from the Arizona School of Health Sciences, a division of the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is board certified in Audiology and a Fellow of the Academy of Doctors Audiology and the American Academy of Audiology.

Learn about eBooks at the library

Learn about eReaders during a two-hour program at the Boardman library on Jan. 18 and 24 at 6 p.m. and Jan. 28 at 10 a.m.

Part one of the program will describe various eReaders and give participants some hands-on experience with the devices. Part two will focus on demonstrating how to download library eBooks.

Enjoy Fun Times at the library

The Boardman library will host “Fun Time for 4s and 5s” on Jan. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 at 10 a.m. The program will include developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help children, ages 4-5, become successful readers.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Screen your blood pressure

There will be a blood pressure screening by the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross on Jan. 3 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at the Boardman library.

Give blood at the library

The Boardman library will have a blood drive by the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross on Jan. 23 from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Blood donations will be taken to help our community.

Teen Advisory Board meeting set

The Boardman Library will host the monthly TAB (Teen Advisory Board) meeting on Jan. 4 at 6:30 p.m. The Teen Advisory Board meets the first Wednesday of each month at the Boardman Library. Newcomers are always welcome.

Library hosts science night

The Boardman library will have a night of science on Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. School-aged children are invited to have a good time learning science and experimenting.

Boardman grad earns PhD

Allison Brager, a 2003 graduate of Boardman High School received her PhD in Physiology from the Department of Biological Sciences at Kent State University this past August. Brager earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Brown University in 2007.

At Kent State University, Dr. Brager was the first university recipient of a competitive, federal research grant given to a graduate student by the National Institutes of Health. Her dissertation, which is published in six major biomedical journals, including the American Journal of Physiology and Alcoholism, was recognized as the best university dissertation of the year.

Dr. Brager is currently doing her postdoctoral fellowship at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta and sits on the Board of Directors of the Sleep Research Society. She is the daughter of Larry and Patrice Brager of Boardman.

The Boardman library will host “Baby Brilliant: Tales and Talk for 2s and 3s on Jan. 4, 11, 18 and 25 at 10 a.m. The program will include developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help children, ages 2-3, become successful readers.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Bonding with Babies and Books

The Boardman library will host “Baby Brilliant: Bonding with Babies and Books” for babies 6-23 months on Jan. 5 at 10 a.m. The program will include developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child become a successful reader. Children must be accompanies by an adult.

Library presents puzzle swap

The Boardman library will host a jigsaw puzzle swap, sponsored by the Friends of PLYMC on Jan. 11 at 5 p.m. Trade already conquered puzzles for ones you haven’t completed with other puzzle enthusiasts in the area.
