Since 1982, Victory Lutheran Church has helped feed hungry people and families near its location on Glenwood Avenue in Youngstown.

During the month of November, Shepherd of the Valley Poland residents, staff and friends collected more than five boxes of non-perishable goods to offer assistance to Victory Lutheran during the holiday season.

On Dec. 7, Rev. Hosea Ekong stopped by the Poland facility to pick up the donations and thank the organization for its hard work.

“Every month, we feed anywhere between 160 to 180 individuals and families and the need is especially great during the holidays. Most months, we donate the goods during the last weekend of the month and we aim to provide three square meals for three days,” explained Ekong.

Kelly Stansloski, Poland Shepherd of the Valley’s associate director, was there to welcome Ekong and his wife, Lillie, and hand over the food to Victory Lutheran.

“At Shepherd of the Valley, as a company and at our own facility, we’re very passionate about reaching out. The donations from our residents, staff and community members has been very gracious and we’re happy to help,” Stansloski said.

Ekong thanked the Shepherd officials and Stansloski helped pack the donated goods into a van headed for the church. “You’ve really made a difference. At the church, every recipient has such sincere gratitude for the food they’re receiving,” Ekong added.
