Cornersburg Dairy Queen owners Ray and Chrissy Smith celebrated the holiday season with their customers during the annual Christmas in Cornersburg celebration Dec. 16.

The Smiths offered their guests several holiday activities, including live nativity animals, viewing of ice sculpture carvings, the opportunity to roast hot dogs and marshmallows over an open fire, and of course, a visit with Santa Claus.

To make meeting Santa even more exciting, he arrived to a large crowd of anxious onlookers on a Youngstown Fire Department fire truck with lights and sirens in full force.

After his arrival, Santa set up outside to talk to all the children and take pictures with them. Guests could use their own cameras or have a photo taken and then download it from the Cornersburg Dairy Queen’s Facebook page.

Members of the Canfield High School band also serenaded customers with Christmas carols inside the restaurant, where gently used Christmas ornaments were also for sale, with the proceeds benefiting Akron Children’s Hospital’s Boardman Campus.

“This event is fun to do every year. We enjoy doing it and we hope our customers enjoy it, too,” said Chrissy Smith.

Guests could also enter to win a decorated Christmas tree with $20 worth of Dairy Queen gift certificates.
