Senior soccer player earns national honor

Canfield senior Kendyl Carlisle has been named to the National Soccer Coaches’ Association of America’s (NSCAA) 2011 Girls’ High School Scholar All-America team. She is one of only 35 girls nationwide to be selected.

This past fall, she was a team captain and fourth-year letterwinner for coach Phil Simone’s Lady Cardinals, who were Division II district champions.

Carlisle has a 4.0 GPA and is tied for first in her class academically. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Young Leaders service club and the Drama club. She and her older sister, Katie, a former Canfield soccer standout now playing women’s soccer at Notre Dame College, are the daughters of Douglas and Kristin Carlisle.

Keller selected for Queen of Diamonds

Kayley Keller of Canfield High School has recently been selected to compete in the Queen of Diamonds Showcase North (QDSN) at Kent State University on Jan. 7 and 8. This showcase is very unique as athletes actually ‘apply to’ this event individually and are selected based on many criteria ranging from ability, potential, academics, grad year, coaches requests and referrals.

Keller plays center field for the Cardinals and also plays for Valley Extreme in the summer.

Canfield hockey team beats Brunswick

The Canfield Cardinals honored senior goaltender Roger Geiser in a pregame ceremony for his recent state saves record, and he responded by stopping 33 of 34 shots from club team Brunswick. Senior assistant captain Sean Meditz had a hand in all three Canfield goals, as the Cards earned a 3-1 victory at the Ice Zone.

Nick Crescimanno picked up two assists for Canfield (2-7). Braden Falkingham and Geiser also picked up assists. Canfield will participate in the Brooklyn High School Christmas tournament Monday.
