A man was charged with domestic violence after his girlfriend ran to a store for help because he assaulted her, police said.

Charles E. Donald Jr., 21, of Devitt Avenue is in the city jail without bond until his arraignment Friday morning.

His 23-year-old girlfriend told police Donald assaulted her Tuesday morning at her relative’s house on Harmony Lane.

She said he punched her then threw her to the ground and stomped on her head, chest and ribs.

She said they went to their Devitt Avenue home and he also assaulted her there, so she ran to the Party Shop on 12th Street for help. Police met her there shortly after 1 p.m. and arrested Donald, who was outside the store when police arrived.
