Canfield City Council, mayor honor departing Belfiore

Canfield
City council’s last meeting of 2011 was also the last meeting Marlene Belfiore attended as a member.
Belfiore was honored Wednesday by her colleagues for 24 years of service. She was defeated in the November election by John Morvay, who will take office in January.
Mayor William Kay read Belfiore, a former educator, an official proclamation and presented her with a reading lamp embossed with the Canfield seal, her name and her dates of services to council.
“A former teacher always needs a good reading lamp,” Kay said. “We’ve been saying nice things about Marlene for the past 24 years, not just tonight. She’s sincerely put her heart and soul into this position.”
Belfiore thanked council, other city employees and residents for allowing her to serve for such a long time.
“It’s been an honor and a privilege,” she said. “I’ve really enjoyed these past 24 years, and I know incoming [council member] John Morvay will do the same for you as I have.”
Also during the meeting, City Manager Joe Warino said the city will have public meetings after the new year to inform residents of new projects.
“We have $6 million in projects coming up,” Warino said.
