MEN

No. 5 North Carolina 99, Nicholls State 49

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.

Dexter Strickland scored 14 points to help North Carolina. Freshman James Michael McAdoo added a season-high 14 off the bench for the Tar Heels (10-2), who dominated the undersized and overmatched Colonels for their fourth straight victory. North Carolina had a miserable shooting start and missed a bunch of free throws, but the Tar Heels snatched away every loose rebound to get plenty of extra looks. They finished with a 72-35 advantage, including 31 on the offensive glass that led to 36 second-chance points. Bryan Hammond scored 15 to lead Nicholls State (4-8), which didn’t manage a point for the first 51/2 minutes and shot just 31 percent for the game.

No. 6 Baylor 95, Paul Quinn 54

WACO, TEXAS

Quincy Acy had 24 points and seven of Baylor’s 17 dunks as the Bears earned their 10th consecutive victory. Baylor got its high-flying act going in a hurry, when Acy took a pass from A.J. Walton for a slam in the opening minute after the 6-foot-7 Acy had already made two free throws. Right after that, 6-11 sophomore Perry Jones III had a putback slam on Brady Heslip’s missed 3-pointer. Baylor (10-0) has won its first 10 games for only the second time, the best start in team history being 12-0 in 2000-01.

No. 7 Duke 90, UNC Greensboro 63

DURHAM, N.C.

Freshman Quinn Cook scored all of his season-high 14 points in the second half as Duke routed UNC Greensboro. Mason Plumlee had 15 points and 13 rebounds and Austin Rivers added 14 points for the Blue Devils (10-1). They shot 54 percent from the field, shook off a sluggish start and overcame 18 turnovers to win their third straight since the one-sided loss at No. 2 Ohio State. Kyle Randall scored 12 points but the Spartans (2-10) shot just 34.5 percent in the second half in losing their seventh straight.

No. 11 Florida 82, Mississippi Valley St. 54
