South Florida 70, Cleveland State 55

Jawanza Poland scored 13 points in his season debut, leading South Florida. Augustus Gilchrist added 12 points and Ron Anderson Jr. and Anthony Collins chipped in 11 each for USF (7-5). The Bulls trailed 19-13 midway through the first half, and held the Vikings without a point for the next nine minutes. USF went on a 10-0 run until Anton Grady’s dunk put Cleveland State back on the scoreboard. USF led 25-21 at the break despite 35.7 percent shooting (10 of 28). Poland scored all of his points in the second half. The junior guard missed nine games recovering from a back injury before serving a two-game suspension for playing in an unsanctioned summer league. Tim Kamczyc paced Cleveland State (10-2) with 14 points, Trevon Harmon added 11 and Anton Grady 10 for the Vikings.

Loyola of Chicago 69, Rockhurst 46

CHICAGO

Ben Averkamp had 23 points and eight rebounds and Loyola of Chicago never trailed. Walt Gibler contributed 13 points and Denzel Brito scored 10 for the Ramblers (4-7), who have won three in a row. Loyola shot 54 percent in the first half in building a 35-13 lead. The Hawks made just 5 of 22 shots before the break, or 23 percent. The Ramblers finished at 51 percent compared to 35 percent for Rockhurst (5-5). Kareem Amedu scored nine points to lead Rockhurst, a Division II school from Kansas City, Mo.

No. 19 Michigan St. 89, UMKC 54

EAST LANSING, MICH.

Branden Dawson got off to a great start in the first few minutes and scored a career-high 16 points to lead Michigan State. Dawson had eight quick points and finished 8 for 12 from the field for the Spartans (10-2), who have won 10 straight. Brandon Wood also had 16 points, including 3-for-3 shooting from 3-point range, as Michigan State grabbed a 16-2 lead and never led by fewer than 10 points again. Draymond Green added 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Spartans, his sixth double-double this season, while Adreian Payne had 11 points. Trinity Hall scored 16 points and Kirk Korver 11 for the Kangaroos (7-6), who had won six of seven after a 46-point loss at Wisconsin.

No. 17 Indiana 107, Howard 50

BLOOMINGTON, IND.

Jordan Hulls scored 16 points and five of his teammates also reached double figures as Indiana celebrated its 500th appearance in The Associated Press’ Top 25. The Hoosiers (11-0) shot 67.3 percent from the field, hit 11 3-pointers and forced 19 turnovers. Indiana fell eight points short of the school record for largest victory margin. The Hoosiers are 11-0 for the first time since the 1975-76 squad went 32-0 and became the last Division I men’s team to complete an undefeated season. Howard (3-9) played without leading scorer Calvin Thompson. Simuel Frazier had 13 points for the Bison, who shot 30.6 percent from the field.

No. 25 Illinois 64, Cornell 60

CHAMPAIGN, ILL.

Meyers Leonard had 19 points and a career-high 16 rebounds to lead Illinois. After trailing for the most of the game, Illinois (11-1) was sparked by D.J. Richardson’s nine points in the second half and narrowly avoided its second consecutive loss. Josh Figini scored all 14 of his points in the first half to lead Cornell (4-4). Illinois opened the second half 1 for 13 from the field and fell behind 42-36, then put together a 14-6 run to regain the lead.

Iowa 105, Central Arkansas 64

IOWA CITY, IOWA

Devyn Marble had 19 points and six assists, freshman Aaron White added 17 points and Iowa pounded Central Arkansas. Melsahn Basabe had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Hawkeyes (7-5), who cracked the 100-point barrier for just the second time under coach Fran McCaffery. Iowa opened the game with a 24-5 run and led by 13 at halftime despite five 3-pointers from Central Arkansas’s Dewan Clayborn. The Hawkeyes pushed their lead to 75-46 with 12 minutes remaining and cruised to back-to-back victories for the first time in a month.

MID-AMERICAN

IUPUI 66, Ball State 57

INDIANAPOLIS

Alex Young scored 22 points to lead IUPUI. Ian Chiles added 17 points for the Jaguars (5-8), who have won three in a row. Ball State jumped to an early eight-point lead, but IUPUI led 32-29 at halftime in the game played at Conseco Fieldhouse. The Jaguars took control and led by as many as 16 in the second half. Jarrod Jones had 16 points for the Cardinals (6-3).
