VOLLEYBALL | BRYANNA JAY | GIRARD
11“After I got started with it, I realized it was the mental part I had to develop,” she said. “When to do what, how to lay down the certain shots and where to go and how to get there most effectively.”
Effective communication is necessary, too. Without it, Jay says, Girard wouldn’t have won its first district title in five years.
“Especially as a hitter, I can’t do my job unless there’s a good pass and then a good set — if there’s not those two, I’m out of luck,” she said. “Teamwork is definitely important and communication is everything.”
On and off the court, she is friends with her teammates including younger sister, Callie Jay.
Next year, Jay will play for the defending Division III national champions, Wittenburg. She plans to major in biology with a minor in genetics before heading to medical school.
