St. Michael Church, 300 N. Broad St., will present Advent and Christmas music Sunday.

The Brass of St. Michael will play a prelude beginning at 6:45 p.m. The program at 7 p.m. will feature the choir, the Christmas children’s choir, Brass of St. Michael, Golden Harmony of St. Michael (flute and violin), and congregational singing.

A reception will follow in the parish hall.

First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., will have a service of lessons and carols Sunday. The prelude will begin at 10:45 a.m. and worship will feature the Motet Choir and Sheet and Tube Brass Quartet.

The Rev. Nick Mager and elder Nancy Carson are liturgists. Scripture will focus on the salvation story.

Christmas program

Beulah Baptist Church, 570 Sherwood Ave., will feature a Christmas program and light refreshments after the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service.

The theme is “Jesus is the Reason for the Season.”

A live nativity will be presented from 7 to 9 p.m. today and Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 56 N. Chestnut St.

Christmas cantata

The chancel choir of Church Hill United Methodist Church, 189 Churchill- Hubbard Road, will present the cantata, “Christmas Canticles,” at 11 a.m. Sunday.

The cantata, by Benjamin Harlan, is a collection of carols arranged for mixed choir and chamber orchestra and will be conducted by Jane Page.

The Rev. David Gilbert is pastor.

New Hope United Methodist Church, 21 Fairview Ave., will present a live nativity with animals from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

First Friday Club

The First Friday Club will host Bishop George V. Murry of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown on Jan. 6 at Antone’s Banquet Centre on Market Street. His topic will be “Vision of the Youngstown Diocese.”

Theology on Tap

Theology on Tap, Mahoning County Chapter, will meet from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bogey’s Bar and Grill, 3535 Upland Road. Speaker will be the Rev. Joe Freedy whose topic will be “From Football to the Priesthood.”

Those attending are asked to donate new or gently used blankets, which will go to Catholic Charities.

The Rev. Andrew Gromm, pastor of St.Michael Orthodox Church, 127 Steel St., teaches the Gospel and church history from the ancient Eastern Christian perspective. “On Earth As In Heaven” is the name of the radio show airing at noon Saturdays on WSOM AM 600.

Father Gromm also leads a Bible study at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at St. Michael Orthodox Church, 127 Steel St.

He focuses on the early Christian interpretation of Scripture, which represents the original Apostolic message.

Subdeacon George Mansour leads the talks on church history, ancient beliefs and other topics at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at St. Mark’s Antiochian Church, 3560 Logan Way.

Royal Rangers

The Royal Rangers ministry, Outpost No. 48, at Covenant Life Fellowship, 5900 W. Liberty St., recognized Ronald Kornbau Jr. during a ceremony and reception Nov. 6.

He received an academy saber from the rangers inscribed with his favorite Scripture verse from Philippians 4:13.

Kornbau was recognized in October by the Ohio District Royal Rangers in Columbus for graduating from the Junior Leadership Training Academy. Over a five-year period, he completed the junior, advanced junior, junior survival, junior winter and junior canoeing expedition camps.

As an academy graduate, he also completed the Elite Leadership Academy Camp in July.

Royal Rangers is a ministry in the United States and some 65 nations around the world. Boys participate in a merit-based advancement program, age-specific activities and recreation, church and community service activities and Bible study and devotions.
