Children beaten

YOUNGSTOWN

Jamal Hopkins, 23, of 622 Almyra Avenue, is charged with two counts of felonious assault and two counts of child endangering after police discovered injuries to the twin daughters of his cousin early Friday.

Police began their investigation after being called to Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley at 1 a.m. Friday for a 16-month-old girl with lacerations and welts on her back, arms and legs.

The injuries were discovered by the child’s grandparents.

Officers then went to the girl’s mother’s home on Almyra to check on the condition of the other twin and found her bruised and cut in a similar way. She was then transported to Akron Children’s Hospital.

Hopkins told police he had hit the girls and an older sister with a plastic coat hanger while he was watching them for their mother.

Hopkins said he was punishing them for playing with Lysol and Crisco.
