School lunch math problems for Ohio school workers

COLUMBUS (AP) — A major Ohio school district has found that 19 of its employees understated their income on federal forms for getting free or reduced-price lunches for their own children.

The Columbus Dispatch reports a Columbus schools investigation found one of the workers saved $520 on lunches in the last school year.

Names of the 19 have not been released. Schools Superintendent Gene Harris says she doesn’t know if any of them is a highly paid employee. The information has been turned over to the district’s labor relations office, and punishment is possible.

The audit found school lunch applications of another 74 school employees contained potentially questionable income.

The investigation followed allegations that a $90,000-a-year principal improperly signed her children up for subsidized school lunches. She resigned.
