BGMS boys fall to AMS Blue

The Boardman Glenwood eighth-grade boys lost to AMS Blue 42-38 in their opener. BGMS played great team defense to force Austintown into several turnovers. Preston Stitt led the offensive attack with 19 points. The eighth-grade team is coached by Jim Bennet.

The BGMS seventh-grade boys was defeated by Austintown Blue 42-28. Glenwood battled to a tie score at the half, but eventually lost a hard fought game. They were led in scoring by Mark Smaldino, Bryce Richey and J.R. Ryan.

The seventh-grade team is coached by Justin Coffin and Dave Nypaver.

BGMS girls defeat AMS Blue

Boardman Glenwood-s eighth-grade basketball team defeated Austintown Blue 41-37. Leading the way for the Spartans was Krista Johnson with 14 points and five steals and Bailey Brandt with eight points and seven rebounds. Natalie Wilson added six points, Katie Platt added and Ellie Hrtiz added four each and Taylor Broll had three points. Marissa Hanna added three points and outstanding defense down the stretch.

The eighth-grade team is coached by Andy Wade and Lauren Susany.

The seventh-grade girls lost their opening game to Austintown Blue 30-14. Leading scorers were Lauren Pavlansky with eight points, Taylor Halowell with four, Maryssa Wagner with two and Alaina Hufnagel with one point.

The seventh-grade team is coached by John DePietro and Courtney Pilch.

Boardman’s Stutz part of championship hockey team

Alexis Stutz, a 12-year-old who attends Glenwood Middle School, was part of the the Girls U12 National Hockey Team that recently won the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Hockey Tournament.

She is the only girl from Ohio on the team, as the rest are from Pittsburgh.

In winning the tournament, the team defeated two Canadian teams to make it to the championship game. The championship game went into overtime with a score of 3-3. With 1:38 left in overtime, the Predators scored the winning goal. Stutz had an assist in the game.

BGMS wrestlers top Liberty

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School wrestlers opened their season with a close win over Liberty 34-31 and a tough loss to Brookfield 36-45.

The following Spartans won matches: Danny Boerio, Greg Beule, Richard Craig, David Dutko, Anton Finch, Conner Kochansky, Nick Patoray, Cole Pollak, and Tyler Stolar.

Boardman JV girls drop league contests

The Boardman junior varsity girls basketball team lost two games last week in Federal League play.

Anna Patoray and Mollie Donnelly each scored five points, but the Spartans lost to Lake 34-19. Colleen Baker added four points and seven rebounds, while Jada Redd chipped in with two.

Against Massillon Perry, Giovanna Silvestri led the squad with six points and five rebounds in only two quarters of play, but Boardman lost 49-23.

Patoray contributed five points, while Donnelly added four.
