Transportation secretary has announcement for Cincy
CINCINNATI (AP) — The federal government has some money headed tor Ohio.
Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has scheduled an afternoon news conference in Cincinnati. Officials wouldn’t confirm details of his planned announcement, but it’s expected to mean more funds for the city’s streetcar project.
Mayor Mark Mallory and other supporters say the streetcar project will help downtown development by attracting new businesses, visitors and residents. Its estimated cost is $95 million, with most of the funding coming from city bonds.
Cincinnati voters in November rejected a ballot issue aimed at halting streetcar construction. Opponents of the streetcar say it’s not a good use of money and would accomplish little economically.
Meanwhile, Gov. John Kasich plans what’s billed as an economic development announcement at a company just east of Cincinnati.
